The auspicious festival of Dhanteras falls today, Tuesday, October 29, marking the beginning of Diwali celebrations across India. Today, people traditionally purchase gold, silver, jewelry, vehicles, utensils, and other valuable items to welcome prosperity and good fortune into their homes. Celebrated on the Trayodashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in Kartik, Dhanteras is also called Dhantrayodashi and is closely associated with worshiping the gods and goddess of wealth and health.
On Dhanteras, people perform special rituals and prayers, especially in the Pradosh Kaal (early evening), to honor Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, along with Lord Dhanvantari, Lord Ganesha, and Dhanpati Kuber. Worshiping these deities on this auspicious day is believed to bring prosperity, health, and wealth for the coming year. This year, Dhanteras coincides with the formation of Tripushkar Yoga.
