Dussehra 2024: Begin work during Vijay Muhurat for success
Delhi News
The tenth day of the Shukla Paksha in Ashwin is known as Vijayadashami, marking the festival of victory.
In other words, when Dashami Tithi coincides with the start of Shravan Nakshatra, the king seeking victory in battle will triumph. This year, on Saturday, October 12, Shravan Nakshatra will last until 11:20 PM, making it an auspicious time for Vijayadashami.
According to renowned astrological texts, Vijayadashami, celebrated on Ashwin Shukla Dashami, holds significant importance as it features a special muhurta known as Vijay, occurring at the time of the star’s rise. This auspicious moment is believed to bring success to all endeavors, which is why the festival has been named Vijayadashami. Additionally, the festival is linked to the goddess ‘Vijaya,’ further emphasizing its association with victory and triumph. Vijayadashami marks not only the end of the rainy season but also heralds the arrival of autumn, making it a national celebration steeped in cultural significance. It symbolizes a powerful and dignified unity, embodying the spirit of resilience and strength that is celebrated throughout the country.
The day of Vijayadashami also commemorates Lord Ram’s historic victory over the demon king Ravana and the completion of Shakti Sadhana. According to the Devi Purana, before the fierce battle between Ram and Ravana in Treta Yug, both warriors worshipped Mother Bhagwati, who manifested Shakti before them. While Lord Ram received the blessing of “Vijayi Bhavah” from the goddess, Ravana was granted the boon of Kalyanmastu, but he did not receive the blessings of victory. This significant moment has led to a long-standing tradition in India of worshipping weapons alongside Goddess Durga during Vijayadashami. The belief is that Lord Rama triumphed over Ravana on Dussehra due to the blessings of Goddess Durga. This has established a custom that honors both power and weaponry during the festival, highlighting the importance of strength, valor, and divine support in overcoming challenges.
Dussehra, derived from two words—’Dash’ meaning ten and ‘Hara’ meaning defeated—symbolizes the victory over the ten sins embodied by Ravana, including lust, anger, pride, greed, jealousy, sensuality, immorality, and ego. This festival celebrates the triumph of truth over falsehood, known as Vijayadashami. During this occasion, various religious rituals take place, such as the immersion of Goddess Durga’s idols, the conclusion of Navratri, the worship of Aparajita Devi, honoring weapons, Vijay Yatra, Shami worship, and the reverence of Lord Ram and Neelkanth. As Lord Ram is a descendant of the Sun dynasty, midday is considered the most auspicious time for his worship, making it essential to honor him during the celebrations of Vijayadashami.
