In the thrilling Wimbledon Open 2024, Barbora Krejcikova emerged victorious, defeating Jasmine Paolini to claim the title. This year’s final coincided with record-high ticket prices, marking the event as the most expensive in sports history, with tickets starting at ₹8.35 lakh. Krejcikova’s triumph not only solidifies her status in the tennis world but also highlights the growing excitement and demand surrounding this prestigious tournament. As fans flocked to witness the final, the combination of high-stakes competition and soaring ticket prices made for an unforgettable event.

Barbora Krejcikova defeated Paolini to win!

Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova triumphed over Jasmine Paolini in the women’s singles final on Saturday, securing the Wimbledon title and her second Grand Slam trophy. Krejcikova previously claimed her first Grand Slam title at the 2021 French Open, where she was unseeded. This season, she entered Wimbledon as the 31st seed due to a back injury, marking a significant comeback at the All-England Club.

Krejcikova achieved an unexpected win, defeating Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in the final at the All England Club. She expressed her gratitude to her mentor, the late 1998 Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna, for inspiring her to pursue a career in professional tennis.

What Krejcikova Said

Krejcikova said, “It is unreal what has just happened. It is definitely the best day of my tennis career and also the best day of my life.” While holding her champion plate, she reflected on her good fortune in defeating seventh-seeded Paolini, the runner-up at the French Open last month. Krejcikova is now the eighth woman to become a Wimbledon champion, following a trend of new champions emerging from the last eight stages of the tournament. Last year, the title was won by another Czech player, unseeded Marketa Vondrousova, who was eliminated in the first round here last week.

Here’s a look at the final match situation:

Paolini is the first female player since Serena Williams in 2016 to reach the finals of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season. Playing with composure, Krejcikova quickly established a 5-1 lead by winning 10 of the first 11 points. Although the audience was cheering for Paolini, Krejcikova remained unfazed. The Centre Court crowd featured celebrities like Tom Cruise, Kate Beckinsale, and Hugh Jackman. Paolini attempted to stage a comeback, but she was unable to unsettle Krejcikova.

After dropping the first set, Paolini returned from the locker room transformed. She started the second set strong, taking a 3-0 lead over Krejcikova and ultimately winning it. When the match was tied at 1-1, Krejcikova found a way to motivate herself. Despite hitting only four winners in the second set, she fired off 14 in the third. Krejcikova remarked, “I was just telling myself to be adventurous.” In the deciding set, Paolini committed a single double fault at 3-3, allowing Krejcikova to apply pressure with a score of 5-3. In a tense finish, Krejcikova had to fend off two break points and three match points before securing the title, with Paolini missing a backhand that sealed the victory for Krejcikova.

Wimbledon final tickets are the most expensive in sports history at Rs 8.35 lakh

Ticket prices for the Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles final featuring Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have soared to record levels due to overwhelming demand. This Sunday’s championship match will be a rematch of last year’s final, where Alcaraz triumphed in a thrilling five-set battle to secure his first grass-court major.

The highest-priced ticket in history

American sports commentator Darren Rovell asserts that this will be the “most expensive get-in final in history,” with the lowest ticket priced at USD 10,000 (approximately Rs. 8,35,193) on online resale platforms. Rovell stated on X, “The Djokovic-Alcaraz Wimbledon final will be the most expensive final ticket in the history of the sport. Right now, tickets for the worst seat for Sunday are going for over $10,000.”

Official ticket prices begin at Rs 30,000

Wimbledon’s official price list indicates that a Centre Court ticket for the final is priced at 275 pounds (approximately Rs. 29,172.56). On Sunday, Djokovic will look to avenge his previous loss to Alcaraz while trying to match Roger Federer’s record of eight titles at The All-England Club. If victorious, the 37-year-old will become the oldest champion in the tournament’s history and achieve a record 25 major titles.

The Serbian player holds a 3-2 advantage in their career matchups against Alcaraz. He has yet to secure a Grand Slam title this year, having withdrawn from the French Open midway due to injury after defeating Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Former world number one Djokovic has excelled throughout the tournament, dropping only two sets on his way to his 10th Wimbledon final.
